Proposed Raised Ramp at Scoil an Linbh Íosa, Prosperous
Clane Area Committee Meeting
8 February 2014
Councillor Pádraig McEvoy
That the council assess Scoil an Linbh Iosa, Prosperous for a ramped pedestrian crossing.
The area office met councillors and a delegation at the school and advised that an uncontrolled zebra crossing would not be appropriate due to sightline difficulties. A push-button pelican crossing may be appropriate but would need to be connected to traffic lights at the junction. However, no funding is available at present to undertake such work. There are multiple requests for signalised crossings in the county most of which, unfortunately, cannot be accommodated due to lack of finance. In addition, any such extra infrastructure will result in increased maintenance costs to the Council at a time when maintenance budgets are reducing. Transportation Department will investigate the matter further if the committee so wishes but no works can be undertaken unless funding is available.
Resolved That the matter be given further consideration.Proposed
